According to French website L’Equipe, Aston Villa have submitted a bid for Le Havre centre-back Harold Moukoudi, but Steve Bruce would be better off re-signing John Terry for another season.
What’s the story?
Moukoudi is just 20 years old and after coming through the youth system at Le Havre he has racked up 48 appearances for the club.
Le Havre have suffered a difficult start to the season though and Moukoudi has appeared in four of the five league games so far from which his side have just six points.
The 6ft 3in man has played for his national side France at all youth levels since the U16s though and L’Equipe report that the defender may prefer to stay in his home country and move up a division to Rennes, who have been working on bringing him in for several weeks.
Experience over youth
Villa may be better off allowing Moukoudi to develop in France rather than risking a bid of over £8m though. The youngster is relatively untested and Villa are pushing for promotion from one of the most competitive leagues in the world after missing out at the final hurdle last summer having lost 1-0 to Fulham in the playoff final.
For this reason, Villa boss Steve Bruce would be wise to make a move to re-sign John Terry for a further season, after the ex-Chelsea legend left the club earlier in the summer amidst the financial problems at Villa Park.
Terry is still without a club this summer and is now 37 years old, but he proved last season that he still has the legs for a full season as he managed 36 games in all competitions for Villa and ended the season in the EFL’s Team of the Year.
With the Birmingham club’s financial situation secured by new owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, now would be the perfect time to bring Terry back.
