According to The Mirror, Arsenal are now expecting midfielder Aaron Ramsey to leave the club as a free agent at the end of the season following a breakdown in contract renegotiation talks.
The Gunners are no strangers to these kind of contract stand off situations having been here only last season with both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil. New developments could still occur and things could change, however, the club must be well prepared for the possibility of the Wales international departing on a free transfer.
Unai Emery should now be weighing up potential replacements for Ramsey and may be tempted to return to his old club in order to pick up another player hurtling towards the end of his contract.
Like Ramsey, Adrien Rabiot’s contract expires in less than 12 months, meaning that Arsenal could potentially replace one free agent with another.
The PSG midfielder – who is valued at £45m by Transfermarkt and has six caps for France – is not a player in the same mould as Ramsey, however, he is the kind of player Arsenal need. The 23-year-old would bring power, physicality, creativity, defensive discipline and a great deal of technical quality to the midfield contingent at the Emirates Stadium.
If Ramsey is set to depart, then Rabiot would be the perfect replacement.
What do you think, Arsenal fans – do you believe that Rabiot is the right man to fill the Welshman’s boots?
