Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has hit out at West Ham United about their sale of midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate to Crystal Palace during the summer, and Irons fans have been quick to agree with him.
Writing his prediction for the Irons’ trip to face Arsenal in the Premier League this weekend, the former Gunners midfielder believes that the Hammers made a mistake by letting the Senegal international go – especially for a low fee – is a mistake, given they look to have no legs in the middle of the park right now.
According to Sky Sports, Merson said: “I can’t get over Cheikhou Kouyate leaving for Crystal Palace for that kind of money, he’s the only one who had any legs in midfield, and I think Arsenal will run riot.”
It is certainly an area of the pitch that Manuel Pellegrini’s men have struggled in during their defeats against Liverpool and Bournemouth this term, with Mark Noble and Declan Rice among those who have looked sluggish in the opening weeks of the campaign.

West Ham supporters took to social media to have their say on Merse’s comments, and while one said it’s “hard to disagree with him”, another said “he’s got a point”.
