Former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has backed Ruben Amorim despite the Red Devils' struggles and made a surprising claim.

Since taking over for Erik ten Hag last month, Amorim has had a difficult start to his tenure at United, losing five of his first ten games as manager. After United's 2-0 loss to Wolves on Boxing Day, their third straight loss across all competitions, the 39-year-old even hinted that his job might be in jeopardy if they don't improve quickly. Ronaldo has now backed his former Portugal teammate Amorim to turn around the situation at Old Trafford.

Speaking at the Dubai Global Soccer Awards, Ronaldo: "[The] Premier League it's the most difficult league in the world.
"All the teams are good, all the teams fight, all the teams run, all the teams are strong. Football is different right now. There's no easy games any more.
"They need, I said this one year and a half ago, and I will continue to say it: The problem is not the coaches, it's like… I always give this example… it's like an aquarium.
"If you have the fish inside and he's sick and you take him out and you fix the problem and you put him again in an aquarium you will be sick again.
"The problem of Manchester United is the same. The problem is not always the coach. It's much more than that."

The five-time Ballon d'Or has also claimed that he would be able to solve all of Manchester United's problems if he became the Red Devils' owner instead of their current ownership.
He added: "If I will be the owner of the club, I will make things clear and adjust things that are bad there."
