Celtic star Moussa Dembele will not be making a shock deadline-day move to Chelsea, according to Sky Sports. What’s the word?Sky Sports reportedÂin the early hours of the deadline-day frenzy that Chelsea were eyeing the 20-year-old forward as a back-up to Diego Costa. The youngster would be a good addition to any club given that he has scored 17 goals in 31 appearances in all competitions, and three of those strikes came in the Champions League. However, the broadcaster claimed that Celtic would only be willing to consider a transfer if Chelsea offered a bid worth £40m or more, which is staggering for a 20-year-old.The speculation was fuelled further when Dembele was spotted travelling to London, but the club insisted that he was only there for a scan on a knee problem, which has kept him out of Celtic’s last two games.[ad_pod id=’now-tv’ align=’centre’]As the hours ticked by, Sky Sports reported during their television coverage that Dembele has since returned to Glasgow and will not be joining Antonio Conte’s side. The player himself seemed to confirm that story when he tweeted…
Has he missed an opportunity in not joining Chelsea?
In this stage of his career, the answer is no. Perhaps because of his contribution at the top level in Scotland, people forget that he is such a young player.
Even though he is representing a giant of a club in Celtic, with respect, he is not playing in the most competitive league around.
The Bhoys currently have a 22-point lead over second-placed Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, so with four months of the campaign remaining they have already sewn up the title.
At some stage of his career, he will have an opportunity to test himself at another club, but for now, he can continue to develop under Brendan Rodgers’s guidance and if he maintains his goalscoring form, clubs will come calling.
From Chelsea’s point of view, spending £40m on a player that Celtic got for nothing from Fulham would not have been great business.
