As reported by The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to land one of the Premier League’s most consistent defenders this season, Hull City’s Harry Maguire.
What’s the story?
With the English football season over we’re heading into the traditional summer transfer window madness and prime candidates for moves will be the top performers of relegated sides like Hull City.
One such performer is Harry Maguire, whose form for Hull this season has alerted the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Everton to his availability, according to The Mirror. With both clubs expected to spend decent money this summer there could be quite the bidding war for the defender if the interest firms up.
The paper say that both clubs are locked in a ‘tug-of-war’ for the player, who is expected to have a price tag of around £22m. They also explain that Spurs are especially keen on him given their desire to replace Kevin Wimmer, who has failed to make much of a splash at White Hart Lane.
Is that fair money for a player who was part of a squad relegated into the Championship?
Worth the cash?
Despite Hull’s relegation and the fact they conceded more goals in the top-flight than any other side, Harry Maguire was the least of their problems. In fact, the 24 year old was often their top performer, even in matches they lost.
Perhaps his stand out performance was away to Chelsea back in January. The Blues ran out 2-0 winners but Maguire put in the kind of assured performance that would certainly not look out of place at the likes of Spurs or Everton.
He was also a key part of performances that so nearly kept them up with clean sheets away to Southampton and at home to Watford key to the Tigers’ late season form.
