The Piatak family, via their Castle Sports Group company, have taken complete control of Carlisle United. The Blues will have new American owners which will see the onset of a new era at Brunton Park. They join the likes of Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney and Tom Brady of Birmingham as American stakeholders in EFL clubs.

Carlisle confirmed the development in a statement that read: "Carlisle United Football Club can now confirm that following EFL approval, the ownership and control of the club has changed. The new owners of the club are Castle Sports Group, owned by the Piatak family from Jacksonville, Florida, USA. We offer them a huge Cumbrian welcome to Carlisle United. Everyone associated with the club is delighted and looking forward to a long and successful future together."

It has been reported that several members of the Piatak family will fly across the Atlantic to watch Carlisle live in action against Charlton Athletic at Brunton Park over the weekend. The deal will see Castle Sports Group take 90 percent control of the shares of CUFC Holdings, with the remaining 10% remaining with the supporters' trust.
